16th century France the Pope switched from the Julian (4713 BC) to Gregorian calendar change from April to January but there is a problem with this theory
The Julian calendar is still used today in manufacture dates of food items. The first two digits are the year the last three are the day number.
Some say Roman festivals like Hilaria centuries earlier was the inception point
Eastern cultures Holi in India festival of color. I have always wanted to participate in something like this.
